Adventure 5 - Blohm and Hoss

After a very long Hiatus, the team got back together to play London again. Unlike the last two games, this one moved the plot forward! We finally had enough people around the table. I feel good about this one, we were able to recap the adventure, to reintroduce our heroes, and jumped into the action.

The game began with the heroes interrogated by Lord Admiral Addington. Their past encounters with Kraken, Hell, and enemy Berlin has left Addington suspicious. He called them into demanding an explanation. Who are they, and why have they been zailing around?

Officer Jack Weston, played by Steven, took charge, offering as best a summary as he could remember. The Robot, played by Garret, normally nonverbal, punched out some answers with a typewriter. Addington was halfway impressed by the answers. Things were fine until Berlin interrupted with a naval barrage. Addington told the heroes not to move, himself running out to investigate the emergency. Naturally the heroes did not oblige.

Weston, the Robot, and the Kid, played by James, and the American, played by Peter, ran off to the Constable's post to help. The constables handed some rifles to heroes and conscripted into the militia. Ermanach however, went off to make sure his family was safe. Thus they separated splitting the drama.

Ermanach the Irish Zailor, played by Erik, rushed home to make sure his mother got someplace safe. There he discovered that his father hasn't come back yet. Ermanach raced to the shore and grabbed a spare rowboat to find his father. What a horrible thought should his tiny fishing boat be blown by a shell?

The further Ermanach rowed out in the zee the further away from the battle he got. Quickly darkness swallowed him. Relying on the small illumination from the coral reefs, the Irishman found his father floating on a wrecked boat. They were not alone however; a killer fish-man tussled with Ermanach.

Worried that his father could be a chum in the water, Ermanach reached into the water and snatched a fishy tail. A brief underwater wrestling match followed. Fortunately the Zailor tied up the fish long enough to help his father climb in the boat. Safe and out of the water, they two men rowed back to shore. The Fish-man chewed his way out of ropes and swam away.

Meanwhile the other heroes decided taking pot shots from the shore at the huge battleship is futile. They needed to take direct action. Reiser fired up the tugboat Betsy and zailed out toward the opposing vessel. The Betsy, still armed with Harpoon guns from the Kraken encounter, snared a line on the titanic vessel. The Kid clambered across and helped the others board the enemy ship.

Once on the German battleship they soon found it mostly deserted. the various cabins lacked provisions, furniture was missing, and hardly anyone was aboard. The large cannon was stilling firing on London however. Enormous shells were slowly fired out of a 60 foot naval gun. Yet only one weapon on the battleship was being used. The heroes assumed this was because there was scarcely anyone around.

They attempted to sneak there way around but the American accidentally created a clatter. The enemy quickly arrived and the heroes split up. The American and Officer Weston engaged in skirmish, Jack Weston with his service revolver, the American only with his fists. On the other side of deck the the Kid crept closer to the big gun. Our lucky little street urchin managed to eliminate the firing crew, and the cannon quieted. The other two found themselves swarmed when small arms fire attracted more enemies.

Thinking quickly, and without any other weapon the American used a flare gun to blind the aggressors. Most of the enemies scattered blind and confused. The heroes made sure to kill Captain Blohm. With his dying breath, Blohm swore his revenge, "Hoss will have you."

The crisis averted, Addington arrived. His suspicions of they being enemy spies were now gone. But, there were unanswered questions, like how could Berlin build such an enormous vessel? What does Hoss have planned? Why were the two even at war at all?

Answer may have to wait for another day. In the immediate, Addington told the players that neighboring Atlantis was under blockade. Their patriotic duty was about to be called on again to free them. Such an objective will necessitate several steps. First task to complete - visit Hell.
