The Academy kicked Zeff out of enrollment after an unfortunate accident. He sought out Barovia after hearing that this distant realm was home to an ancient library and some missing wizards & secrets. Ultimately where this quest was an attempt to find redemption or maybe just to lay low for a while, Zeff didn’t elaborate.

Magnolia was drawn to Barovia because it was a geographic oddity. It didn’t appear on the maps but the hidden valley had fixed dimensions but couldn’t be found. The travelling Visanti too occasionally had herbs and flowers for sale that shouldn’t exist, or at least had an impossible origin. She joined the others to get to the bottom and find out the truth.
